NIXON The Magnacon Chronograph

In general we cover luxury mechanical watches at PW, although some quartz watches are definitely worth a look. The new Nixon Magnacon may not be a luxury wristwatch, but it is nice to see the use of some high-end elements, such as a titanium carbide coating and sapphire crystal.

The Magnacon uses a Swiss made chronograph movement with date and day. The stainless steel titanium carbide treated case looks pretty big and is water-resistant to 200 m. The caseback is even numbered, which means these watches will not be available in big numbers, although I would still expect over 1000 to be produced. The strap is a ballistic nylon with a titanium carbide coated buckle and a locking snap closure. Overall Nixon has made a good effort, now they just need a mechanical movement.

The Magnacon will be available this fall for $600.
