Admiral's Cup Challenge 48 "Black Flag" Limited Edition
A bold new expression of the legendary Admiral's Cup, the Challenge 48 "Black Flag"
is a fusion of deep black and luminescent blue, with the bright colors of the signature nautical pennants noticeably missing. This Limited Edition of 100 pieces is exclusive to the United States. It will be unveiled in a lead launch by Tourneau at an event on November 20th at its King of Prussia, PA location.
The Admiral's Cup collection embodies CORUM's sporty side. Immediately identifiable by their 12-sided cases, these models have been intriguing fine watchmaking enthusiasts since 1960, when the collection was introduced. Bearing the name of a legendary international regatta, this line is one of the brand's five mainstays, along with the Romvlvs, Golden Coin, Golden Bridge and Specialty Watches. Today, the line is adding an uncompromising black titanium version enhanced with key details highlighted with blue Superluminova. This limited-edition watch confirms CORUM's place as a standard of reference among watchmakers.
Titanium is obtained from two minerals: rutile (titanium oxide) and ilmenite (titanium-iron oxide). The word comes from Greek mythology where Titan meant Giant: a powerful name inspiring a strong and technical timepiece.
Ultimate sign of reliability and accuracy
Built as an extreme sports chronograph that perpetuates the legend of the Admiral's Cup, the Admiral's Cup Challenge 48 "Black Flag" features a black titanium case holding an automatic chronograph movement with COSC chronometer certification. Chosen for its excellent resilience and lightness, the titanium minimizes the weight and protects the robust automatic movement. This CO-753 caliber, which provides the chronograph function in addition to hours, minutes, seconds and date, operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a 42-hour power reserve.
The imposing 48mm case speaks of its power. It has locking push-buttons thanks to an exclusive locking system. The screw-down case back, also of black titanium, is decorated with the Admiral's Cup trophy. A black rubber bezel surrounds the convex anti-reflective sapphire crystal, protecting the top side of the watch. Made for extremes, this sporty chronograph carries on the legacy of the legendary Admiral's Cup.
The black dial, magnificently decorated with "Côtes de Genève," displays chevrons covered with blue luminescent material, an avant-garde choice. The hour and minute hands are faceted and shine in the blue due to an identical treatment. The only exception is the chronograph second-hand. Assertively placed at the center of the dial, with the CORUM key as a counterweight, the chronograph second-hand is covered with deep black lacquer. The small chronograph minute and hour counters and the small seconds, at 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00 respectively, have hands that shine by using a specific blue Superluminova gives a bright contrast and makes them easy to read. The date is displayed in a large window at 4:30.
On the flange, another symbol characteristic of the collection, 12 very discreet nautical pennants mark the hours.
The winding rotor is engraved with the brand's name, a reminder that CORUM cares as much about the technical quality of its timepieces as about their aesthetics. The black vulcanized rubber strap has a pin buckle made of black titanium and engraved with the brand name. The Admiral's Cup Black Flag 48 is guaranteed watertight to 300 meters and has been developed with excellent shock resistance.
