AP: Montauk Highway Limited Edition Royal Oak Offshore
Audemars Piguet will be unveiling the Royal Oak Offshore Montauk Highway on June 11th. For AP fans, this is an open invitation to attend the unveiling at London Jewelers in Long Island.
Audemars Piguet celebrates the long days of summer with the special edition Royal Oak Offshore Montauk Highway timepiece. Though only a 100-mile stretch of road, the Montauk Highway is much more than a route on a map. This is the famed asphalt that connects New York City dwellers to the sun, surf, and style of the Hamptons.
For New Yorkers, the Montauk Highway represents an escape from the rigors of the daily grind, a passage to an oasis where water laps lazily at the docks and boats dot the horizon. In this atmosphere, time extends and contracts in dreamlike proportions. Audemars Piguet set out to capture this spirit of weekend getaways and clambakes on the beach, succeeding with characteristic polish and flair.
The Royal Oak Offshore Montauk Highway, with chocolate brown counters set against an off-white Méga Tapisserie guilloche pattern, reflects the aqua blue sky and sea in its numbers, seconds hand, counter pointers and tachymeter scale. Delighting in the special details, Audemars Piguet offers a brown "Hornback" crocodile strap with stainless steel AP folding clasp and aqua stitching on the strap, completing the visual harmony.
Like its other siblings in the Royal Oak Offshore line, the Montauk Highway is built for function and adventure. A soft iron cage protects the movement against magnetism, while the black rubber seals on the crown and pushers ensure water resistance up to 100 meters. The steel case polished to a warm glow houses a real treasure. Audemars Piguet, legendary for its mechanical quality and exceptional finish, powers the Montauk Highway with the in-house developed and constructed automatic chronograph caliber 3126/2840 (based on the cal 3120) with date and small seconds.
Fittingly, the Montauk Highway comes with a presentation box finished in the Riva Boat style using five different timbers, and shaped to resemble a hull and bridge with metallic angles. Black Napa leather, chosen for its suppleness and durability, lines the inside.
Their will be 300 numbered pieces available exclusively at AP NYC, AP Bal Harbour and London Jewelers, Long Island. Retail is $20,500.
