Luxury Watches: Concord C1 Biretrograde

Concord recently unveiled a double retrograde complication that combines the date and the day of the week. Powered by a Concord C101 automatic movement, the C1 Biretrograde is available in either platinum or rose-gold. The dial is transparent (skeleton) and features a high-tech multi-layered design. A thick 3.3 mm sapphire crystal protects the dial. Below this is a chapter ring, which is slightly off-center to provide room for the retrograde displays.

The Concord Bi-Retrograde features two retrograde displays, one displays the date and the other displays the day. "Bi-retrograde" and "tri-retrograde" displays may not be new, but the ability to create exotic looking displays has made them fashionable in recent years. In this case, the lower left of the dial features an arc with the days of the week listed (Mon-Sun). In the lower right of the dial is an arc with the dates of the week displayed (1-31).

The case is 44mm in diameter and 14.6 mm in depth and features a 50 meter water-resistance. The hours and minutes are displayed in the center of the dial, like on most watches. However, the seconds function has been removed. The markers and hands are treated with Superluminova, for nighttime viewing. The strap is made of black vulcanized rubber with a folding clasp in 18k gold.

Aside from the double retrograde displays, there is one other feature that further sets this luxury watch apart. The movement decoration. Through the skeletonized dial you can admire the Côtes de Genève, circular graining and black PVD treatments. Of the three finishes, the black PVD may be most notable, as there are plenty of movements decorated with Côtes de Genève and circular graining. But how many are decorated with black PVD?
