The Audemars Piguet ChronoAP wins Best Men's Watch
AP CEO Philippe Merk accepting two awards
Last week, in Geneva, The Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars w/ AP Escapement, a.k.a. the ChronoAP, took home the Men's watch award at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix. This award should come as no surprise, as this watch features one of the most advanced watch escapement technologies currently available. The design of the escapement allows it to operate with very low friction, therefore requiring no lubrication, and it does so with traditional watchmaking materials, as opposed to silicon. Best of all, though, it operates at a ridiculously high 6hz (or 43,200 vph). This high frequency makes the watch extremely precise. This is what chronometry is all about.
I visited the AP manufacture last year, and when we discussed this escapement technology, which is currently available in very limited quantities and at a very high price, I was told that it could eventually make its way into the AP Royal Oak Offshore 3126 calibre movement.
