H. Moser & Cie. Perpetual 1
Schaffhausen based H. Moser & Cie., was re-launched in 2002 by Dr. Jürgen Lange and the great-grandson of Heinrich Moser, Roger Nicholas Balsiger, jointly with private investors. H. Moser & Cie. produces simple and elegant timepieces, with very simple dials, like this perpetual calendar, for example.
Photographer Peter Chong, recently had a chance to photograph the H. Moser & Cie Perpetual 1 in his studio.
The dial has a power reserve indicator, a large date, subsidiary seconds, and a very unique month indicator (the short central arrow hand indicates the month using the hour markers as months).
The other perpetual calendar functions are useful for setting the calendar, like the leap year indicator for example. It is displayed on the back, the movement side. This indicator is used for setting the watch, in relation to the leap year, but it is not something the wearer will normally view, as it is on the backside of the timepiece.
There is no moonphase or day of the week indicator, but that is fine, considering the simplicity of reading the month from the hour markers, and the date from the aperture at 3 o'clock. The result of such a simple design, is a very clean and easy to read timepiece.
The movement is beautifully finished, featuring anglage and immaculate hand finishing. It also features double fausse cotes, gold chatons and polished steel screws holding the chatons that contrast beautifully.
The escapement has a nice innovation. The entire escapement can be removed in the field. This is to allow the entire escapement to be replaced in the event of adjustment and regulation issues. All adjustment and regulation work to be done in the factory.
Like the dial and movement, the case is perfectly executed with very smooth curves. Even the rear glass is curved for a more comfortable fit on the wrist.
The watch is available in platinum, rose gold and white gold.
