TAG Heuer Link Smartphone
The world's first Swiss luxury Android smartphone.
Considering the poor reception of the TAG Heuer Meridiist in 2008, it is surprising to see TAG Heuer still competing in the mobile phone market in 2011. That is, if you can even consider a $6,650 Android phone that offers nothing more than a $500 Android phone, as competition.
The TAG Heuer Link smartphone does everything a Samsung Galaxy S 4G can do. Both handsets even use the same operating system (Android 2.2), which is already outdated. This is not a problem for a mobile phone maker like Samsung (who already has Android 2.3 phones on the market), but for a watchmaker like TAG Heuer, it poses a huge problem. Why? In the mobile phone industry having the newest technology is of the utmost importance.
TAG Heuer cannot update their hardware or software as fast as a company like Samsung. A fatal flaw, especially when you consider that smartphone manufacturers cannibalize the sales of their own products by releasing new phones every 6 months.
Not to mention, the Link is far too bulky, at a quarter of an inch thicker than the Galaxy S. In an industry where newness and thinness are in, the TAG Heuer Link phone has neither.
