Porsche Design 40Y Limited Edition Set

July 2, 2012

In 1972, the first product introduced under the Porsche Design brand was the black Chronograph I P'6540. The second product from Porsche Design followed in 1978: the P'8478. To celebrate the brand's 40th anniversary, Porsche Design has created a limited edition set called the "40Y of Iconic Products" which includes a watch and aviator glasses, like the originals.

The watch in the set is a Porsche Design P'6540 Heritage Chronograph. It is presented in a matte silver grey case made out of titanium, measuring 40.5 mm in diameter. Dial is black with white hour markers. It has three chronograph sub-dials, a tachymeter, and "40Y" on it and features red chronograph hands. Anti-reflective coated sapphire crystal. Water resistant to 100 meters. It is powered by an automatic ETA Valjoux 7750 movement with 25 jewels and 48 hour power-reserve.

The P'8478 Aviator Sunglasses were the world's first sunglasses with replaceable lenses. The design of the glasses has remain unchanged, except now they are made of ultralight titanium. They finish is a sandblasted matte silver-grey combined with brown, silver-mirrored, progressive tint lenses, which emphasize the typical look of the seventies in a way that is true to its style. A 40Y laser emblem - for 40 Years - on the bridge and the inner side of the right side make the special model unmistakable. The number of P'8478 sunglasses is limited to 10,000, and they are available in the four sizes S, M, L, and XL.
