Last month, Seiko announced a pair Grand Seiko Anti-Magnetic timepieces inspired by pieces from the brand’s archives (quartz model inspired by a piece from 2003). Comparable to the Rolex Milgauss and IWC Ingenieur, each timepiece is resistant to magnetic fields (non-magnetic) with a rating of 40,000 A/m or greater.

Seiko will release four “Red Logo” models in total. Two with mechanical movements and two with quartz movements. The mechanical model will come with either a black dial or a white dial, and the quartz model will come with either a black or light grey dial. The automatic versions are powered by Caliber 9S65, a self-winding mechanical movement that is rated to (+5/-3 seconds per day). The quartz versions are powered by Caliber 9F61, a thermal compensated movement with no date display that is accurate (-/+ 10 second a year).

Anti-magnetic performance is 40,000 A/m for the quartz and 80,000 A/m for the mechanical. All versions have stainless steel cases, although the dimensions vary slightly: the mechanical is 39.4 mm in diameter, whereas the quartz is a bit smaller at 38.8 mm in diameter. The sapphire glass has an inside anti-reflective treatment. Screw locked crown, water-resistance to 100 meters.

The new Grand Seikos will be available at dealers this fall (quartz versions will be only available in limited production, only in Japan). Ref. SBGX089, SBGX091 (quartz) / SBGR077, SBGR079 (mechanical)
