Rudis Sylva RS12 Grand Art Horloger
December 18, 2012
Rudis Sylva has just launched their third generation timepiece, the RS12 Grand Art Horloger, equipped with the brand’s patent “Harmonious oscillator” and hand finished to the highest haute horology standards.
The Harmonious oscillator is neither a tourbillon nor a carrousel, however, it is designed to combat the negative effects of gravity on the movement, like a tourbillon or carrousel. The regulation of the movement is handled by two toothed balances (at 6 o’clock on the dial), which work to minimize the effects of gravity. The toothed balances are interlinked, ensuring the same amplitude. The symmetry and energy of the balance springs are constantly opposed, enabling instantaneous average correction in the vertical position, which minimizes the effect of gravity.
Presented in a 44 mm x 14.3 mm 18K red or white gold case, the RS12 Grand Art Horloger is not just a technical marvel with its patent oscillator, but also a work of art. The case features a vertical satin finish, the bezel is polished and the horns are welded, polished and micro-blasted. The case back is solid, which is not typically done on a movement of this level, but there is a good reason: the entire movement is visible through the dial. And notably, the finishing on the case back, like the rest of the timepiece, is extraordinary. The 18K red or white gold screwed case back has been hand engraved with a sundial inscription. It also features an intricate hand made enamel painting. Definitely one of the most complicated solid case backs we’ve ever seen.
The movement is completely open on the dial side, similar to this amazing Breguet timepiece. From the gold hands which feature hand guilloche-work, to the machined titanium and hand-bevelled dual balance bridge at 6 o’clock — which includes no fewer than 28 internal angles — this timepiece features the very best finishing. The main plate shows off hand guilloche worked with a pattern considering of 60 tapering pyramids. The gear train has circular graining and diamond-polished corners. The movement has hand-bevelled edges, including many with internal anglage. Even the barrel drums have a snail finish. Nothing was left un-finished.
Functions include hours, minutes on a dial at 12 o’clock; and seconds via an indicator ring at 6 o’clock (the cage turns 360 degrees in 60 seconds). Frequency is 21,600 vph (3 Hz). A double barrel (mainspring) ensures a power reserve of 70 hours.
Alligator strap with large scales and tassel with 18K red gold or white gold tongue buckle. Crown in 18K red or white gold, engraved with logo.
According to Rudis Sylva, “The unique technology offered by Rudis Sylva positions the Harmonious Oscillator above most existing tourbillons, since the effects of gravity to which it is subjected are minimized.”
