The New Perpetual Calendar Tourbillon from Breguet

This is Breguet’s all new perpetual calendar tourbillon, the Ref. 3797 Classique Tourbillon Quantième Perpétuel, which was launched at Baselworld 2014. It is presented in a 41 mm diameter case, with Breguet’s signature fluted caseband and welded lugs, and is available in either 18K rose gold or 950 platinum. According to Breguet, “The amount of information displayed on the dial can be confusing, so Breguet has added a third dimension. By lifting the hours and minutes chapter to the foreground, the timepiece draws attention to the essential information. A further glance takes in all the other indications. The reference 3797 does this with an offset sapphire disc. The opaque chapter ring with its metallic Roman numerals reveals the time instantly with the aid of the Breguet open-tipped hands in blued steel. Beneath the disc, an engine-turned hobnail pattern decorates the

Introducing the Longines Heritage Dive collection

Longines has just announced another collection within their Heritage watch line, which consists of remakes of historic models. These models are very faithful to the originals, like this one. The Longines Heritage Dive Chronograph, for example, is similar to the original, except where the vintage Valjoux 72 powered timepiece had a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, the new model has a date in its place. Also it now says “Swiss Made” as opposed to “T-Swiss-T.” And, it has a modern ETA automatic movement in place of the manually wound Valjoux 72.

Talking With TheWatchAdviser Luke Rottman

Jason Pitsch

In March while attending Baselworld, I first started hearing of a very young watch blogger who was writing about watches and covering the watch shows. This past week at Timecrafters, I met him for the first time. His name is Luke Rottman. He is a freshman in high school, and he collects and writes about mechanical wristwatches in his spare time. 1- What sparked your interest to start collecting mechanical watches? My interest in mechanical watches was sparked when I found my grandfather’s 1962 Explorer-Dial Omega Seamaster 30 when I was rummaging through a junk-drawer at my grandparents’ home on a rainy day. In the following weeks, I researched the watch and, after learning that there was an entire market based on vintage watches, I was hooked.

Introducing the Longines Conquest Heritage 1954-2014

At Baselworld 2014, Longines introduced a throwback collection called the Conquest Heritage 1954-2014 — contrary to the majority of heritage timepieces we see today, this is a spitting image of the original, right down to the 35 mm diameter case. Being 2014, it of course has a modern movement, but apart from that, virtually everything else is the same.
