At Baselworld 2015, for the first time ever, Patek Philippe introduced a “Jumbo” Nautilus in rose gold. The Nautilus 5980/1 comes in rose gold, but this is the first time it has been used for a 5711.

The new Patek Philippe Nautilus 5711/1R-001, with its 40 mm polished and satin-brushed rose gold case, comes with a light/dark brown graduated dial with a vertical guilloche pattern. The way the light hits the dial gives it a light grey to dark brown appearance, depending on your viewing angle.

With a 40 mm case, sapphire caseback, satin and polished finishes, full metal bracelet, screw-down crown, water-resistant to 120 meters, powered by caliber 324 S C, which runs at 4Hz, has 213 parts (29 jewels), 45-hour power reserve, a Spiromax balance spring and Gyromax balance – technically, it’s the same as the 5711/1A-011 with a white dial in steel, although there is a small difference between the blue dial steel version 5711/1A-010.

Notably, while the guilloche pattern on the white dial version is the same, the blue dial variant has a slightly different pattern, noticeable at 12 o’clock where the “Patek Philippe Geneve” is stamped.

Verdict

The 5711/1R-001 is a classy addition to the iconic Nautilus “Jumbo” collection – originally designed by Gerald Genta – dating back to 1976. For those of you looking for something a bit more elegant than the steel Nautilus models, this is a great alternative, assuming you like gold.
