IWC and Mercedes at SIHH 2013

IWC and Mercedes at SIHH 2013

Unlike the “other” annual watch show (and by that, we mean Baselworld), SIHH is an exclusive professional trade show, put on primarily by the Richemont Group, whose brands include some of the best names in watchmaking such as IWC, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Panerai, A. Lange & Söhne, Vacheron Constantin, and Cartier. The show itself is quite a luxurious affair, and each brand pulls out all the stops to highlight their new product offerings to retailers, journalists and VIP attendees. Yet year after year, it is IWC that manages to put together a booth that truly stands apart and astounds the crowds.

SIHH 2013 Recap: Panerai Radiomir 1940 & Oro Rosso (PAM512 & PAM513)

This past month in Geneva, Panerai unveiled a few new additions to their Historic Collection, the Radiomir 1940 Steel and Radiomir 1940 Oro Rosso. Both of these new models utilize the newer style Radiomir case style (launched last year) featuring thicker lugs and a cylindrical crown, designed to emulate cases designed in the 1940s. Unlike the monster 47 mm cases that Paneristi tend to favor, these two editions are much more wearable for most at 42 mm. The 3 Days models for the Historic Collection (PAM514 & PAM515) remain at 47 mm.

The main function of the original complication has been refined for use in the 9981 MC and 9454 MC movements, which respectively power the Mystery and Mystery tourbillon watches.

What is the Mystery behind the floating hands of the Cartier Mystery clocks and watches?

Hands-On With The Breitling Superocean Heritage Diver

Hands-On With The Breitling Superocean Heritage Diver

During a recent visit to Breitling’s flagship boutique in Manhattan, I had a chance to try on a very cool dive watch, the Breitling Superocean Heritage. It is available in two sizes, 46 and 42 mm, I prefer a more conservatively sized dial, so I naturally choose the 42 mm. Inspired by the design of a 1950s model, the Superocean Heritage is a throwback dive watch, as opposed to their more modern Superocean.
