TX watches introduced the TX 310 Classic Retrograde Perpetual Calendar during Baselworld 2010. This all new timepiece features a round 44.5 mm stainless steel "classic" style case and a domed crystal. (Note: the K1 hardened mineral crystal has a high potential to scratched, as opposed to a sapphire which is virtually scratch proof. One of the sample pieces at the show already had a scratch on the crystal.) Even so, this is a really nice timepiece, especially considering its price. The case and dial are more classic than most of the watches in the TX collection, and I think this is a good thing. It offers something different. The look is very simple, and the dial is easy to read.

Earlier this year, at Baselworld 2010, Rolex unveiled new steel Submariners with the ceramic bezel upgrade, as seen on the gold Submariners last year, and the GMT bezels the year before. Click here for a video of about the ceramic bezel production process. In comparison to aluminum, ceramic is much harder, as well as being extremely resistant to scratching.

The all steel Submariners come with either a green or black ceramic bezel. The green is $7,800 and the black is $7,400. Regardless of which color you choose, the 2010 ceramic bezel steel Submariners will be very collectable, as this is the first year of production. The demand for this particular Rolex is already high, and I've heard they are very hard to get. You may even have to a pay a premium over retail to get one. However, if you do pay a few hundred or even a thousand over MSRP, in the long run, it will more than likely pay off, because it's a Rolex.

Stowa Marine Automatik A10 with date

Marine Automatik mit Datum A10-3.jpg

German watchmaker, Stowa, recently introduced a new automatic timepiece to their Marine collection, the Marine Automatik A10 with date. Previously Stowa has offered this watch with a ETA 2824-2 movement, but now they have moved to an A10 movement (both are Swiss movements, but the A10 has some advantages over the ETA). It is not COSC certified, like is available on some of their watches. But it does have Geneva Stripes on the rotor and bridges, blued screws and a engraved rotor. This particular version comes with a date, although it is available without a date as well. I much prefer that date on this timepiece. The dial is made of 925/000 sterling silver, which looks excellent, especially with the beautiful German style blued steel hands. There is no luminous paint on the dial at all, as this is clearly a more traditional design. The case is stainless steel and measures 40 mm x 9.8 mm. Overall, I am very impressed with this timepiece, and especially how much you get for your money.

See all their new watches, which were introduced during Baselworld 2010, here. The strap is 20 mm and made of crocodile skin. You may also like this Stowa watch, that was previously mentioned.

Zenith El Primero Saga & Striking 10th

Zenith-El-Primero-Striking-10th-222.jpg

At Baselworld 2010, I had a chance to view the new Zenith El Primero Striking 10th timepiece, in gold. In recent years Zenith has gotten away from their core, which is more traditional timepieces. Under the direction of their new CEO, Jean-Frédéric Dufour, they are getting back to basics. And this, of course, includes their famous EL Primero movement. Below are some photos of the new El Primero collection, with the cool Striking 10th feature (shown in gold) and the new El Primero Sage (shown in stainless steel).

Victorinox Dive Master 500 Collection

Victorinox-Dive-500-Collection.jpg

Victorinox has recently introduced two new timepieces within their Dive Master collection. The Dive Master 500 Chrono and the Dive Master 500 Mecha. The chronograph is powered by a swiss quartz movement and the mechanical is powered by a swiss made ETA 2892-A2. The Dive Master Mecha was introduced last year, but they have added this deep blue version, which consists of a blue dial and strap. Both watches feature the black ice PVD finish that was introduced on last year's model (black ice PVD looks a shade lighter than most PVD).

Rebellion REB-7 Regulator Blue

Rebellion-booth-Baselworld-2011.jpg

The Rebellion REB-7 Regulator Blue timepiece was introduced at Baselworld 2010. The Rebellion watch brand was launched in 2008, a great year for the watch industry, followed by one of the worst years in the history of the watch industry, 2009. For 2010, Rebellion continues to offer unique and appealing complicated watches, with a refreshingly sporty modern look.

"Rebellion's stunning REB-7 takes that traditional Regulator design and reinvents it for the 21st century. Displaying both the minutes and seconds centrally has enabled Rebellion to include a very legible large date indication as well as providing easy reading of the exact time.

Developed to Rebellion's exacting specifications by master watchmaker Laurent Besse, the audacious REB-7 offers as much in the way of technical surprise as it does in the way of aggressive visual excitement."

Movado Master TM Automatic

movado-master-tm-1.jpg

In the last few years, Movado has created watches that are a departure from their past models. The brand new Master TM, which was introduced at Baselworld 2010, features the brand's iconic Museum dial, and the signature 12 o'clock "dot", and you can clearly distinguish this as a Movado timepiece. However, the design is definitely going in a different direction in recent years, at least for some of the models. In this case, the dial is asymmetrical with a sporty matt black or, white dot-textured motif. The strap, which is also available in white or black, features the same dot-textured pattern, and matches well with the theme on the dial. Definitely a look I would not have expected to see on a Movado a couple years ago.

U-Boat U-42 53mm Submersible Instrument

U-Boat-U42.jpg

U-Boat watches are an ode to professional instruments and instrumentation. In a meeting with Italo Fontana, founder and designer of U-Boat watches, I learned that much of his inspiration comes from extraordinary machines like racing cars, or jet fighters and the instrumentation found inside them. The successful Flightdeck collection and the lesser known Thousands of Feet series are examples of U-Boat watches that spawned from this passion. A second important source of inspiration for Italo's watchmaking career is a concept that his grandfather had proposed to the Italian Navy in 1942. The numerals and left handed configuration of U-Boat watches spurred from these drawings and were originally revived in 2009 by the giant, 65mm, U-1942. The limited edition U-42, unveiled in March 2010, is based on the U-1942 but scaled down to a 53mm size and to a more accessible price range.
