De Grisogono is producing another limited edition of the first mechanical digital display, originally introduced at Baselworld in 2008. For the most part, the timepiece is un-changed. Some of the movement parts, which are visible through the partially skeletonized dial have now been upgraded with new finishes and materials. The result is a slightly better look, but at a glance the watch is nearly identical to the original piece.

The DG Meccanico was a hit at the 2008 Baselworld show. It features a movement comprising no fewer than 651 elements, two time zones, one in an analog display, the other in a mechanical digital display. The movement is the hand-wound DG 042 caliber that runs at 28,800 vph and has a 35-hour power reserve. The upper part of the dial shows the analog display of hours and minutes, and in the lower part of the dial is the unique mechanical digital display of a second time zone. The 56 x 48 mm case is a curved rectangular shape, made of either titanium, 18K pink gold, titanium and 18k pink gold, titanium and rubber, or titanium and platinum.

A sapphire crystal is used on the front and back. The pushers and crown are covered in vulcanized rubber. Water-resistance is 30 meters. The dial is slightly tinted, resulting in a transparent black look. The hands come in green or gold, depending on which variation you choose. The bracelet is black natural rubber with a titanium or 18K pink gold folding clasp.

Retail $150,000+

OTTURATORE by De Grisogono

De Grisogono defies the fundamentals of watchmaking with the launching of its Otturatore, a timepiece combining audacity, refinement and modernism. Its mobile dial features a sequential display of seconds, date, moon phases and power reserve, with 3 of them always concealed. By a simple manipulation, the sequential mechanism can be displaced by 90° in a few tenths of a millisecond, a speed guaranteed to turn the world of complicated watches upside down. MORE>>

More sweet shots of the DeGrisogono Meccanico, and it looks like they added a cover to the mechanical digital display. The original press images showed no cover over this display. I think I liked it better without the cover. (Pre-production press images here.)

Baselworld 2008: De Grisogono Meccanico

Degrisogono-meccanico.jpg

[ via SwissTime ]

After a successful Baselworld debut the Meccanico by De Grisogono may be one of the most popular watches debuts at Basel 2008.

This watch is not only eye candy, it also the world's first mechanical digital wristwatch. It was created using 651 elements and features two time zones, one is traditional analog, the other is a mechanical digital display. This is a hand-wound DG 042 movement, exclusive to De Grisogono. It has a 35-hour power reserve and makes 28,800 vibrations per hour. The analog hours and minutes display is in on the upper part of the dial and the mechanical digital display of a second time zone is on the lower part of the dial. It comes in titanium, titanium and rubber, titanium and platinum, 18k pink gold and titanium and 18k pink gold. My personal favorite is the titanium and rubber (pictured above), although I am sure there will be many desirable variations available in the future. All 177 pieces sold out.
