Overview

On December 6th and 7th I visited Dresden, Germany to attend A. Lange & Sohne's dual anniversary, which celebrated both the 165th anniversary of their original founding by Ferdinand A. Lange (1845), and the 20th anniversary of the brand's re-establishment in (1990).

To begin the celebration, Lange hosted a Gala dinner inside the Royal Palace of Dresden. It was the perfect historic setting, as Saxony is famous for monumental buildings, such as the Royal Palace, and magnificent art collections, which could be seen on the walls of the Royal Palace. Jerome Lambert (CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre), William Schmid (CEO of A. Lange & Söhne) and Walter Lange (original ancestor of Ferdinand A. Lange), gave speeches, along with a number of other speakers who were important to Lange's re-stablishment.

Overview of Roger Dubuis Manufacture Visit

On June 21st and 22nd, along with the marketing and press representatives from Roger Dubuis USA and the editors from two luxury magazines, I attended a very special press trip to the Roger Dubuis watchmaking factory in Geneva, Switzerland.

Roger Dubuis was founded in 1995, and is a true manufacture (meaning they produce some or all of their own movement calibers in-house.) Their watch designs are contemporary, however, their movements are actually more traditional, with classical complications, such as chronographs, torubillons and minute repeaters, made in-house, by hand. This is what makes Roger Dubuis a truly exceptional brand.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Manufacture street view

In March, a day before Baselworld started, I had the opportunity to visit and tour one of my favorite manufactures, Jaeger-LeCoultre. About an hour outside of Geneva, in the french speaking part of Swtizerland, Jaeger-LeCoultre is situated in "the cradle of fine watchmaking" - the Vallee de Joux. Along with Jaeger-LeCoultre, the Joux Vallée is home to some of the world's top haute horology manufactures, including Audemars Piguet, Blancpain, Breguet, Frederic Piguet and more. In fact, on the way to the Jaeger-LeCoultre factory, coming from Geneva, you actually drive by Audemars Piguet and Frederic Piguet manufactures, which are all within minutes of each other. The Vallée de Joux consists of 10 villages in a valley of the Jura mountains. This is where many of the world's best watches are produced. And this, is what makes a trip to the Joux Vallée, so intriguing.
