Cabestan Scuderia Ferrari One

Cabestan-Ferrari-watches-sketch.jpg

After the recent dissolution of the Panerai and Ferrari partnership, Ferrari wasted no time in finding a new watch brand to partner with. The problem with the Ferrari/Panerai relationship, was that the guys that drive Ferraris, don't wear Panerais, and vice versa. The guys that own Ferraris generally prefer more exclusive timepieces than those made by manufactures such as Panerai. Ferrari has chosen to work with high-end boutique watch brand Cabestan. Cabestan and Ferrari just released this concept sketch of their first timepiece, the Scuderia Ferrari One. These timepieces will be available in very limited quantities, exclusively to Ferrari owners.

FERRARI Rattrapante by Panerai

Ferrari-Rattrapante-1.jpg

The Geneva watch show, SIHH 2009, just finished up about two weeks ago. Of the 17 high-end brands, most are part of the Richemont group, including Officine Panerai and Ferrari. Ferrari watches are made by Panerai, but the Ferrari logo is the only branding on the dial. You have to turn the watch over in order to view the Panerai logo. To me this strategy is a good one, it allows Ferrari fans to own a high quality Panerai watch, with the Ferrari logo displayed. At the same time I can understand why some people, such as purists, prefer a true Panerai. While I do understand why purists may not like it, I do recognize that there is still a market for buyers who are not as interested in collecting watches. Kronosclub has a very strong opinion on this topic that is worth a read. I know for a fact that Ferrari is one of the more popular sections on this website, so my question is what do you think about Ferrari watches?

FERRARI California Wristwatch

[ via Ferrari/Panerai ]

To coincide with the introduction of the Ferrari California, Officine Panerai has introduced a new two-counter chronograph in its "Ferrari Engineered by Officine Panerai" watch collection. The case of this limited edition Panerai timepiece measures 45mm in diameter, and displays a cushion shaped profile; brushed surfaces are predominant with polished elements on the lugs and case corners providing an appealing and tasteful contrast. Both pushpieces and signed winding crown feature a finely machined knurled texture. Evocative of the sensual, sporting form of the Ferrari California, this watch's black dial showcases accents in iconic "Ferrari Red", including a dial section between 12 and 3 o'clock whose semi-circular sweep calls to mind the tachometer instrumentation of a Ferrari car. The Ferrari "California" logo on the dial removes any doubt as to the official connection between these two coveted luxury objects.

FERRARI Granturismo Scuderia Chronograph

[ via Officine Panerai ]

This Granturismo Scuderia Special Edition Chrono by Ferrari was engineered by Officine Panerai, however the Ferrari logo is all that is displayed on the dial. The use of Ferrari red on the dial was a perfect choice for a company known for their red supercars. The prancing horse is proudly displayed on the dial along with three contrasting black chrono subdials. Panerai and Ferrari made a great decision to work together to create a watch line that represents Italy's best. More pics after the jump.

Ferrari Watches Engineered By Officine Panerai

cars.jpg

After the contract between Girard-Perreguax and Ferrari expired there has been a new union formed between two Italian manufacturers. The co-branding partnership between Panerai and Ferrari seems to be a much more logical partnership than the previous partnership with Girard-Perreguax. I liked the wristwatches that were created under the former partnership, however I would much rather spend my money on one of the new watches. Please check the Ferrari gallery at www.panerai.com, I think you will agree that these watches are far superior than the former Girard-Perregaux Ferrai watches.
