The Hamilton "Murph" watch from Interstellar

Jason Pitsch

The movie Interstellar features two watches from Hamilton, one that is straight out of their regular catalog, and another that was made custom for the movie. The former is a regular production Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date, worn by Matthew McConaughey (Cooper) throughout the movie. Hands-On With The Hamilton Khaki Pilot Pioneer Auto Chrono

For 2013, Hamilton introduced an automatic version of the Khaki Pilot Pioneer, which was originally launched in quartz in 2010. The Khaki Pilot Pioneer is inspired by the aviation watches from the 1970s, specifically the model that Hamilton originally designed for the Royal Air Force. The new automatic version — the Khaki Pilot Pioneer Auto Chrono — has the same overall design as the quartz, except for a few changes which distinguish it as the version with the mechanical movement.

Indexes are applied to the chapter ring and include luminous paint. On the men’s model Hamilton designers left off the 12 and 6 o’clock hour markers, however, the 36 mm lady’s model (shown below) does have all twelve hour markers.
