The Jaquet Droz Bird Repeater

jaquet_droz_bird_repeater_chicks_9.jpg

Historically, Jaquet Droz was known for creating intricate, automaton timepieces and so as a homage, they have created a masterpiece called the Bird Repeater. It is a hand-painted work of art, an amazing automaton (with a scene of a family of birds feeding and one coming out of its egg) and a minute repeater all in one.

Housed inside a 47 mm by 18.4 mm 18K rose gold case is an immaculate hand-finished 69-jewel manually wound Swiss movement (visible through a clear case back) with a minute repeater function. To hear the time (minutes, hours), you have to activate the slide on the left side of the case, which also activates the automaton scene of the birds feeding. Watch a video of it in action by clicking here.

Jaquet Droz Only Watch '09

jaquet-droz-only-watch-09.jpg

For Only Watch '09, Jaquet Droz has created a one-of-a-kind timepiece. It features a white ceramic case and red enamel dial.

"An ivory colored enamel dial needs about ten layers to achieve the right color, with each layer being fired at 800°. Black needs 15 layers and 15 firings, and blue 18 or 19, but red needs an amazing 22 layers. So every time you add a layer you add another complication. Each time it is fired you add another risk of breakage and another risk of bubbling."

Jaquet Droz introduced their newest edition to the "Hommage Genève 1784" Collection, the Réserve de Marche Céramique, during the Baselworld fair this past April. The 44 mm case is made of black ceramic. The use of ceramic, a very hard and scratch resistant material, creates a shiny finish that will maintain its original color. The black opaline dial is simple and elegant. The power reserve indicator at nine o'clock displays the impressive 68-hour power reserve. This exclusive "Grande Second" timepiece is limited to only 88 pieces worldwide.
