Perrelet Turbine Baselworld 2010

Perrelet-Turbine-BAselworld-2010-5.jpg

Perrelet introduced the original Turbine watch last year at Baselworld. For 2010, not much has changed. Why change a good thing? Perrelet did make one change for 2010, though. They added a cool new color varitation to the Turbine collection. Black with orange luminous stripes on the inner section of the turbine. According to Perrelet's US President, Michael Goldstein, the new Turbine is selling extremely well and driving new sales for the brand. The three orginal variations are appealing, but this additional new orange on black variation, seems like the perfect color combination. The bright orange contrasts very well with black, and makes the dial really stand out.

Perrelet Semi-Skeletonized Split-Seconds Chronographs

At the Baselworld show this past March, I visited the Perrelet booth, where I got to preview all of their new watches, including the much hyped Perrelet Turbine. The Turbine watches look really good in-person, but the Perrelet collection that impressed me the most, was the black Semi-Skeletonized Split-Seconds Chronograph collection. This collection, officially unveiled by Perrelet today, consists of three variations, all black DLC/stainless (shown above), black ceramic/rose gold (shown below) and black ceramic/stainless (shown below).

Baselworld 2009: Perrelet Double Rotor Turbine

Baselworld 2009, Perrelet unveiled their new Turbine collection. It features a Perrelet P-181 Double Rotor movement, connected to a unique 12 blade Turbine - visible through the dial.

The double rotor, transformed for the occasion into a turbine fitted with 12 blades made of titanium, covers the whole of the dial and slips beneath an interior black raised area, showing luminous numbers. On the under dial, luminous markers accentuate the optical effect and make the impact of this model all the more sensational.

Chronographe à rattrapante Louis-Frédéric by PERRELET

Perrelet revisits its past and pays tribute to its founder's grandson. Born in Le Locle, the young Louis-Frédéric emigrated to Paris towards the end of the 18th century. He soon caught the eye of the royal court and became watchmaker to three successive kings of France. He won renown through many competitions and, in 1827, applied for a patent for his invention, the split-seconds chronograph counter, which also received an award from the Academy of Sciences in Paris. Almost two centuries later, Perrelet is reinterpreting this complication in two exceptional versions: one in white and pink gold limited to 50 pieces; the other in white gold in a limited series of 27. Both feature a black or blue semi-skeletonized dial.

Double Rotor Titanium Calibre P-181 by PERRELET

[ via Perrelet ]

I am really impressed with the Perrelet Double Rotor Titanium P-181 watch and the entire Perrelet titanium watch collection. This one has a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with 6 layers of non-reflective treatment on both sides. The 43.5 mm wide and 13.6 mm tall case is made of solid titanium. Titanium is almost twice as strong as steel all while being about half the weight. Titanium is also anti-allegric and very resistant to corrision. Perrelet used a natural rubber strap which is actually organic. Like titanium, natural rubber is extremely biocompatible and anti-allergic. They finished it all off with a solid titanium folding clasp. The use of carbon fiber accents on the dial and the exhibition caseback were two extra nice touches that add further appeal. If my conversion is correct you can find the Perrelet Double Rotor Titanium wristwatch here for $6999.

Perrelet Titanium Moon Phase A5000-1

perrelet_moonphase_.jpg

[ via Perrelet ]

Abraham-Louis Perrelet invented the 'perpetual' or automatic movement. He came up with the perpetual movement back in 1777, making Perrelet one of the oldest watch companies in existence. The thing about Perrelet though is that they make great watches, but few of them are very sporty. Until more recently with the introduction for the titanium Moon Phase collection. Titanium has helped make this watch sleeker, stronger and most importantly sporty. It has a 3 layered dial made with carbon fiber and red super luminova markers for great visibilty and a great look. The titanium case is 43.5 mm in diameter, 100 meters water resistant and has a natural rubber strap with a titanium folding clasp. The price might seem a bit high at $6,700, but then again you are buying from one of the best.
