Baselworld 2010 Preview Porsche Design Heritage P'6530

porsche-design-titan-baselworld-2010-1.jpg

Thirty years ago, Porsche Design created a small revolution in the watch world by launching the first chronograph in titanium. It has now reproduced this legendary model. Faithful to the original, the new Heritage P'6530, constructed entirely in shot-blasted titanium, has the same positive characteristics as its illustrious predecessor: pure, clear lines and integrated pushpieces. Only the diameter of the case has changed: to reflect modern trends, it has been increased to a generous 44 mm. Nevertheless, it remains just as comfortable to wear thanks to the extreme lightness of the titanium, which is very easy on the skin and offers strong resistance to corrosion. Limited edition of 911 pieces.

porsche-design-flat-six-p6340-chronographe.jpg

At Baselworld 2009, Porsche Design introduced some new versions of their popular Flat Six P'6340 Automatic Chronograph. For the most part, the watches are the same as when they were originally introduced in 2007. They still feature a 44.5 mm x 15 mm stainless steel case that is water-resistant to 120 meters. Inside is the same modified 7750 movement, with a signature Porsche alloy wheel shaped rotor and visibility through the sapphire caseback. The chronograph pushers are flush mounted with the case at 2 and 4 o'clock, like on the original. And the sporty dial layout that you expect from a watch that pays homage to the venerable Porsche 911, is unchanged.

PORSCHE DESIGN Indicator P6910

[ via Porsche Design/Eterna ]

Porsche Design does not specialize in the manufacturing of high-end watches or writing instruments. What they do specialize in is the design of such products. They may not manufacture the watches or pens that display their name, but the companies they have sourced, definitely do. Eterna and Graf von Faber-Castell are well respected companies, so when you buy a watch or pen with the Porsche Design name, you know it is well made. The Porsche Design indicator is the perfect example, it is the only chronograph in the world which is equipped with a mechanical-digital stopwatch display.
