Earlier this year, at SIHH 2009, Jean Richard unveiled a new version of the Diverscope, powered by their in-house movement - the JR 1000. This automatic movement is the same one used to power their Chronoscope, as well as numerous other watches in their collection. It is designed to accommodate several complications, and can be supplemented by various modules providing virtually unlimited functions.

Two press shots of the new IWC Ingenieur Big Chronograph collection, that was introduced in Geneva on January 19th-24th, at SIHH 2009. IWC makes some really nice manufacture timepieces, the Ingenieur is one of my personal favorites. This version comes with an IWC 89360 caliber automatic movement. It features a date function with rapid adjustment, a chronograph flyback function with elapsed time of up to 12 hours and a power reserve of 68 hours. The case is 45.5 mm x 14.5 mm and is available in steel, pink gold or platinum.

A prototype of the latest Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Tides of Time auctioned on line for World Heritage preservation

On February 16th, jaeger-lecoultre.com will begin an online auction of one prototype of the model Master Compressor Extreme W-Alarm Tides of Time, from its SIHH 2009 collection.

Symbolising the "Tides of Time" partnership between Jaeger-LeCoultre, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and the International Herald Tribune, this timepiece associates two of the Manufacture's emblematic complications: an alarm and the simultaneous display of the time in 24 time zones. Three of the cities on its outer dial ring have been replaced by three natural sites - Scandola, Galapagos and Tubbataha - inscribed on the World Heritage List benefiting from a dedicated preservation programme supported by Jaeger-LeCoultre.

When first created in 1972, the Royal Oak overturned existing fine watchmaking codes and asserted itself as the first high-end sports watch. Twenty years later, the famous octagon was reinterpreted in an extreme sports version that became the Royal Oak Offshore collection - the start of an ongoing success story. The latter is now being enriched with new dials in unusual colours and appears equipped with the exclusive self-winding Calibre 3126/3840.

Master Compressor Diving GMT Lady Ceramic by JAEGER-LECOULTRE

JLC recently introduced a new version to their popular Master Compressor Diving Lady line of timepieces. "Right from the time of their introduction in 2007, the Master Compressor Diving Lady watches signalled the end of the dilemma between performance and refinement. Active, sporty ladies can now adorn their wrist with a professional and highly reliable instrument, while not renouncing nothing of their taste for elegance." The use of black ceramic, not only makes this watch beautiful, it is also nearly impossible to scratch. Overall the aesthetics of this watch are very pleasing, including the black dial with contrasting markings. And, of course, the 16 diamonds that are in the diving bezel.

FERRARI Rattrapante by Panerai

Ferrari-Rattrapante-1.jpg

The Geneva watch show, SIHH 2009, just finished up about two weeks ago. Of the 17 high-end brands, most are part of the Richemont group, including Officine Panerai and Ferrari. Ferrari watches are made by Panerai, but the Ferrari logo is the only branding on the dial. You have to turn the watch over in order to view the Panerai logo. To me this strategy is a good one, it allows Ferrari fans to own a high quality Panerai watch, with the Ferrari logo displayed. At the same time I can understand why some people, such as purists, prefer a true Panerai. While I do understand why purists may not like it, I do recognize that there is still a market for buyers who are not as interested in collecting watches. Kronosclub has a very strong opinion on this topic that is worth a read. I know for a fact that Ferrari is one of the more popular sections on this website, so my question is what do you think about Ferrari watches?
