Edox recently announced the WRC Chronorally timepiece for use in professional rally racing. In conjunction with the World Rally Chamionship, Edox has created an entire collection dedicated to the world’s best rally drivers and their co-drivers.

The new WRC Chronograph has many functions. In addition to the standard displays, it offers a host of new possibilities including stage timing with an accumulated stage time, recount/replay mode, countdown mode and chronograph.

All these functions are operated by means of the pushpieces and the crown, which, with its outsize design, is easily gripped by the gloved hands of a rally driver. The WRC Chronograph also boasts other rally-themed details like a raised caseback which represents a WRC wheel rim and a rubber wristband featuring a car tyre tread pattern.

Powering the WRC Chronorally is an Edox 36, which is based on a Soprod automatic winding mechanical base calibre. The case is made of 316L stainless steel and is 48 mm in diameter by 15.20 mm thick. The strap is rubber, with rally style tire treads down the band. The dial features a sporty black dial with red and silver dials. Water-resistance is 100 meters (300 ft).

The watch is operated with three pushers, and one crown. The red pusher, at 2 o’clock, starts and stops the different timing functions. The polished pusher at 4 o’clock, is for resetting the timers. The crown is used to set the time. And the big pusher, at 9 o’clock, switches between the different rally timer modes – Time, Race, Replay, T. time, Ctdown, and Chrono. The ability to switch between different race timing modes, mechanically, is definitely rare. This particular version is made for rally racing, but it would definitely be cool to see this type of selector function on chronographs for other sports as well.

The price is $2,225.
