Richard Mille has just announced an amazingly thin new timepiece, the Extra Flat Automatic RM 033. At 6.3 mm in height, the case is extremely thin, and thankfully, it does not sacrifice one of the best features of a Richard Mille timepiece — the high-tech skeletonized automatic movement.

The all-new RMXP1 caliber features automatic winding via a monoblock platinum micro-rotor. The movement features a free-sprung balance with variable inertia, a Nivaflex balance spring, 29 jewels, a 42-hour power reserve and runs at 21,600 vph (3hz). The movement was adjusted in 5 positions for increased chronometric performance. The movement measures 33 mm in diameter, however, it is only a mere 2.60 mm thick.

The case is made of titanium and measures 45.7 mm by 6.30 mm. It is incredibly thin and should make for a very elegant and sporty timepiece – two categories that usually don’t go together. Audemars Piguet, Piaget, Jaeger-LeCoultre, Vacheron Constantin are four brands that are well known for their ultra-thin timepieces, and although each one has its own distinctive look, what is common among all four of them, is their classical styling. That is what is so great about the new RM 033, it is totally sporty, which is the exact opposite of what you see from four of the watchmakers mentioned above.
