Instant Chronograph Collection Featuring Sinn & Omega
December 23, 2012
Browsing the classified sections of the world’s best watch forums is daily routine here at Professional Watches. Sifting through the myriad of modern dive watches and dress pieces rotating through the community’s personal collections, every once in awhile we come across a posting that is entirely drool-worthy, and has us reaching for our credit cards. Such was the case when we came across this seller on Watchuseek, listing a phenomenal collection of vintage Sinn 142s and a stellar Omega Mark II Speedmaster Racing Dial.
For those unaware, the Sinn 142 is an incredibly important piece of horological history - being the first automatic chronograph certified for use in Space. Featuring a substantial case (offered here in bead-blasted steel and PVD treatments) with an internal rotating bezel and fantastic military-style dials. The 142 is an impressive piece to behold and has great wrist presence. Helmut Sinn is a legend in the business, and the 142 is considered by many to be the best of the line. Pictures barely do them justice.
The Speedmaster Mark II is an oft-underappreciated timepiece, less popular than the earlier Professional “Moon Watch” models. Yet they run off the same legendary caliber .861 manual winding movement and are housed in an extremely comfortable tonneau case. This particular example features the unusual “racing dial,” highlighting its 70’s flavor with a brightly colored track set to a grey background. Super cool.
Of course, we can’t make any statements to the seller’s integrity and have no affiliation, but these look like great pieces, and if you’re in to vintage sports chronographs with great looks and history, these are worth a look!
