We previewed the 459 lots that will be auctioned at Antiquorum New York this Wednesday (September 18th, 2013). Of the hundreds of timepieces for sale, our three most wanted are the: AP Royal Oak Jumbo Extra-Thin, Patek Philippe Platinum Perpetual Calendar and Jaeger-LeCoultre Memovox in Steel.
Click below for a wristshot and description for each piece.
Lot 290 Jaeger-LeCoultre Ref. 875 Jaeger-LeCoultre Ref. E 875 Memovox Steel. There are many vintage Memovoxs on the market, however, this is arguably one of the better looking versions — and it’s in steel. It measures 37 mm x 13 mm, which was big for 1980 but perfect nowadays. It is rated in “Very Good” condition and is estimated at $2,500-$3,500.
Lot 446 Patek Philippe Platinum Perpetual Calendar Ref. 3940P. This platinum Patek Perpetual Calendar was originally sold in 2005. The 3940P comes with a self-winding movement, which is hidden by a solid cseback. It measures 36 mm x 8 mm platinum case and is fully polished. It is in perfect condition, or as Antiquorum calls is “Exceptional.” As you would expect from a piece this collectible, it is accompanied by the original winding box, booklets, setting pin and certificate of origin. The estimate is $35,000-$45,000.
Lot 452 Audemars Piguet Ref. 15202 ST Jumbo Royal Oak. This is the new version of the 1972 AP Jumbo. This particular version was first sold in December of 2012. It comes in a steel case that measures 39 mm by 8 mm, which is a hair thicker than the original Royal Oak ‘Jumbo’ Ref. 5402. Notably, the new Royal Oak Jumbo has an in-house made dial, whereas the old dials were made the same way, but not done in-house. The bracelet is more modern, basically it is more robust and better contoured to wrist. While owning the original is a nice idea, the wearability of the new version bracelet might be worth forgoing a vintage Royal Oak. Antiquorum lists the condition as “Very Good”, although it seemed to be in “Exceptional” condition to us. It is accompanied by the original fitted box, certificate, hang tag and booklets. The estimate is $7,000-$10,000 but we can assure you it will exceed the high end of that estimate. Retail is over $22K brand new.
