If you did not get a chance to bid on the unbelievably high priced Daytonas at Christie’s last month, and you are in the market for a vintage Daytona, then you might want to check out the four vintage Daytonas up for sale at the December 11th Antiquorum auction.
Our favorite of the four, is the Daytona shown above — a Rolex Ref. 6239 Paul Newman “Cosmograph” Black Dial Steel that was made in 1964 and is listed as being in “exceptional” condition. Triplock winding crown, steel tachometer bezel with engraved black markings, luminous baton hands, off-white and black with applied black painted steel square indexes and luminous dots, subsidiary white dials for the seconds, the 12-hour and 30-minute registers, outer red 1/5th seconds track.
The movement is a caliber 722-1 which has been rhodium-plated, with 17 jewels, has a straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance adjusted to 3 positions, shock absorber, self-compensating free-sprung Breguet balance spring, Microstella regulating screws.
