Early this year at Baselworld, Patek Philippe introduced the ref. 5960/1A Annual Calendar Chronograph in stainless steel, which as of this year, replaces the production of all ref. 5960s in gold and platinum.

The Patek Philippe Annual Calendar Chronograph Ref. 5960/1A-001 features a number of design changes. First, it has a new mono-counter register at 6 o’clock that has been reconfigured with minutes (60-minutes) on the inside and hours (12-hours) on the outside. Second, it has a new bezel that is tapered slightly differently at the base than the previous 5960s. Third, is the debut of a stainless steel “drop” links bracelet. Finally, it has a new silvery-gray dial the utilizes striking red accents and black applied hours markers, hands, chronograph subsidiary dial, and apertures.

Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds, chronograph (hours, minutes, seconds), annual calendar (day, date, month), and power reserve indication. According to Patek Philippe, “The movement is a prime example of tradition paired with innovation. It combines the classic column-wheel control concept with a modern vertical disk clutch that eliminates the risk of hand jump or recoil when the stopwatch function is activated. The clutch is practically friction-free so that the chronograph hand can be used as a permanently running seconds hand if desired.”

In-house caliber CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H has 456 total components, including 14 bridges and 40 jewels. It features a Gyromax balance wheel and a Spiromax balance spring. It beats at 4Hz and has a maximum reserve of 55-hours. The central rotor is in 21K gold. The case measures 40.5 mm in diameter and features a convex sapphire crystal, along with a sapphire crystal case back.
