At the CES 2015 show today, in Las Vegas, Viper Security Systems announced their latest SmartStart 4.0 car security system which adds the ability to start, unlock/lock, remote open your trunk, and track your car directly from Android Wear watches. And maybe, more importantly, it will also be compatible with the forthcoming Apple watch.

The previous Viper SmartStart security system can already perform all these functions from an Android or Apple smartphone.

Now, it can be done more discreetly, from your wrist.

“Wearable technology will give Viper SmartStart users the ability to feel connected with their vehicle in an even more accessible and convenient way,” said Frank DeMartin, Senior Vice President of Development and Engineering for Viper.

Compared to the Jaeger-LeCoultre AMOVX2 Rapide Transponder, which can unlock/lock, only a specific car, thanks to a micro-transmitter embedded in the caseband of a traditional mechanical wristwatch, wearables have far more functionality. Then again, the point of a mechanical watch, is not to open your car.
