Casio introduces "Pro Trek" Smart Outdoor Watch

March 8, 2017

Casio recently unveiled the second version of their outdoor WSD-F10 smartwatch – carrying the coveted “Pro Trek” moniker for the first time.

The Pro Trek Smart Outdoor watch (Ref. WSD-F20) comes in a rugged resin case, measuring a large 56.4 mm x 15.3 mm, which also means the screen is quite large as well at 1.32-inches. Yet, because of the case construction, the total weight with strap is 92 grams, so it will not weigh you down when hiking, fishing, hunting, cycling, or whatever outdoor activity you buy it for.

One really cool feature called “Casio Moment Link” allows you to use your watch to form a group, with the ability for up to nine people to connect. This means you can share your location data on a map, terrain, or satellite display. You can also send text messages or voice message to the entire group or specific members.

Another noteworthy feature is that in addition to connecting to your phone for use with location services, the watch itself has a separate GPS function. Basically, when you are outdoors and your smart phone does not have reception, a built-in high precision GPS chip and antenna connect to and receive location data from three global positioning satellites. The information is then used to display your locations on a full color map.

Like traditional “GShock” and “Pro Trek” watches, the Pro Trek Smart is water-resistant to 50 meters which should be sufficient for any water-related activity. Moreover, the watch meets US military spec MIL-STD-810, which means it has passed 10 tests that include resistance to vibration, humidity, drops, solar radiation, extreme temperatures, and more.

Technologically speaking, the Pro Trek Smart runs on Android Wear and is compatible with Android 4.3 or later and iOS 9.0 or later. The watch is loaded with sensors, including one for pressure (altimeter), speed (accelerometer), movement (gyrometer), location (magnetic compass).

The watch is also equipped with GPS, Bluetooth® V4.1 (Low Energy), Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n), and features a magnetic charging terminal.

According to Casio, under normal use, the watch will run for more than 1 day depending on use, and more than one month if it is left in timekeeping only mode.

The retail price will be approximately $500. Learn more at Casio.
