Introducing the Apple Watch Series 3
September 12, 2017
The new Apple Watch Series 3 now features cellular connectivity. That’s right, you can make and receive calls from your wrist, without a phone needing to be near by. The watch will use the same number as your existing mobile phone, and service is available in the US at launch with all four major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile).
It is unclear what the additional fee will be to activate cellular on the Series 3 models equipped with the optional antenna and electronic sim card.
Apple managed to fit the new cellular radio, sim card, and a new dual core processor that is up to 70% faster, among other features, all in a case that has essentially the same dimensions as the previous Series 2, apart from having a slightly thicker rear crystal.
The watch also has a number of new health features and can stream Apple Music via cellular, without the need for your phone to be nearby. No camera, or new form factor, but that leaves room to be added to the Apple Watch Series 4.
It is worth noting that Watch OS 4 (the watch operating system) will be available September 19th for free.
Apple Watch Series 3 with cellular connectivity will be available starting at $399 and can be pre-ordered September 15th, with deliveries beginning September 22nd.
