The highlight at Audemars Piguet during SIHH was the Royal Oak Offshore Grande Complication — which features minute repeater, split-second chronograph and perpetual calendar complications. To exemplify their know-how in the area of highly complicated timepieces, AP exhibited 16 Grand Complication pieces from their museum in Le Brassus (pictured below).

AP chose to make a the Grand Comp contemporary which although unusual for this type of piece, seems appropriate as it was created as an homage to the original Royal Oak Offshore which was first launched 20 years ago.

It comes in a 44 mm titanium case with ceramic bezel, pushpieces and crown. Glareproofed sapphire crystal and case back. Water-resistant 20 meters. Black rubber strap with titanium pin buckle. A single watchmaker will devote over 700 hours to making each timepiece.

Caliber 2885 is a self-winding Grand Complication movement with 52 jewels, a 45-hour power reserve and a frequency of 19,800 vph. It includes a column-wheel chronograph, striking mechanism sounding on two gong placed on the same level, metallic sapphire moon-phase indicators and a customizable oscillating weight. Cut-out parts are hand finished (polished bevels, beadblasted, matt surface underneath). The bridges are hand finished (rounded-off and polished bevels, satin-brushed flanks, circular-grained recesses).
