Similar to the Diamond Outrage launched by Audemars Piguet at SIHH 2017, this year, the Le Brassus watchmaker best known for their Royal Oak, debuted another high jewelry lady’s timepiece that’s out of this world.

The Sapphire Orbe can be worn as a bracelet when the dial cover showing, and as a watch when it’s inverted (often referred to as a “secret timepiece”). As much as I love the fact that it tells the time – hours and minutes via a quartz caliber – when the cover is closed it’s just stunning. The best of both worlds in my opinion.

The multi-layered exterior features 12,000 stones, “each rigorously selected, individually cut, and set by hand,” according to AP. The petal-shaped rings are entirely snow-set with diamonds and graded sapphires in 6 graded shades of blue and orange, each in 20 different diameters ranging from 0.5 mm to 1.5 mm in size. In the center is a 20 mm wide dark blue sapphire globe that houses the tiny quartz movement, and which when inverted displays the watch’s 18K white gold dial paved with graded orange sapphires.

Incredibly, it takes over 1,000 hours to gem-set just one watch. The retail price is CHF 895K.
