G-Shocks are ultra-durable watches that are designed to resist serious impacts, water, and virtually anything you throw at them. To achieve this level of resistance there’s a large inner bumper which typically results in a large case. However, with consumer demand for smaller watches making up a growing share of the market, Casio has to adapt.

Enter the all-new GA-2100 which has a relatively small hexagonal-shaped case that measures 45.4 mm x 48.5 mm. Moreover, at 11.8 mm tall, this is the thinnest combination G-Shock model ever produced.

The design was inspired by the original 1983 DW-5000 model, just like the popular Full Metal 5000 collection. Although instead of stainless steel construction and a much higher price point, the GA-2100 is manufactured from resin and carbon composite, referred to as Carbon Core Guard, with a steel caseback. The watch measures just 51 grams.

The dial features analog hands and small digital readout and four buttons control all functions and is protected by a mineral crystal. Interestingly, there’s a quick-release lever on each of the straps, so perhaps Casio has future plans for easily swappable straps.

Water-resistance is 200 meters. The movement is quartz caliber 5611 with 3-year battery life. The GA-2100 is available in two black and one red version and they are available at select G-Shock stores and select retailers internationally, with US rollout likely later in the year. Retail is $99.
