Grand Seiko turns 60 years old in 2020 and the Japanese watchmaker marks this significant year with two events: the opening of a boutique in Paris and the founding of a distinctive European entity.

Although not widely available as readily as Seiko, premium Grand Seiko timepieces are now sold at a growing network of company-owned boutiques (both Seiko and Grand Seiko) and high-end multi-brand stores around the world. The company’s latest location opens to the public today at the prestigious Place Vendôme in Paris — the luxury watchmaker’s largest boutique.

Located at 7 Place Vendôme the new boutique is situated on the west side of the famous square, in a building designated as a historic monument. Consisting of two-floors and spanning over 2,000 square feet, there’s enough space to show off around one hundred models — the entire Grand Seiko collection — including a select number of limited edition Credor and Wako timepieces. Befitting of its Parisian address, the store’s interior design, which was created by Kengo Kuma, took inspiration from Japanese tradition but with a contemporary twist.

Shinji Hattori, Chairman, and CEO of Seiko Watch Corporation, great-grandson of the founder, Kintaro Hattori, said: “We are investing heavily in Grand Seiko, with new production facilities in Japan, new corporate structures, including the new company, Grand Seiko Europe based here in Paris, and in new retail locations. The new Grand Seiko boutique on Place Vendôme is a strong symbol of our ambition that Grand Seiko will become one of the leading brands in the luxury watch market internationally, just as it already is in Japan.”
