In conjunction with Revolution, and its sister publication The Rake, Hanhart produced a limited edition homage model 417 Chronograph in bronze.
Introducing the Hanhart x The Rake x Revolution Bronze 417 Chronograph Limited Edition, presented in a 42 mm x 13.3 mm bronze alloy case with Hanhart’s signature fluted (coin-edge) bezel, which is continuously rotatable and has a red mark for timing things. The case measures 49.5 mm in length and has a 21 mm interlug width. A bronze alloy with the chemical mixture (CuSn8) was specifically used so that the watch will patinate fast. The watch is based on the original Hanhart 417 ES Flieger Chronograph that Steve McQueen wore in the 1960s — including while racing motorcycles.
As part of the collaboration, there’s a Belstaff Trialmaster leather jacket offered separately, or as part of a package. This is effectively a four-way co-branding effort, and the watches available are restricted to 150, however, unlike many limited editions, the prices seem reasonable, and you’re not forced to buy the jacket if you just want the watch or vice versa.
A ridged bronze crown emblazoned with the Hanhart “H” along with pump pushers keeps the watch faithful to the original. Further, the watch comes on a minimalist black calfskin leather Bund (cuff watch strap) with contrast stitching (similar to the one that Steve McQueen wore with the original iteration of this watch), with Alcantara underneath, a pin buckle with a historical logo in a bronze PVD coated steel.
Driving the old school dual-register chronograph with a 30-minute subdial at 3 o’clock, central chronograph seconds, and small seconds at 9, is an outsourced Swiss-made manually wound Sellita caliber SW 510, equipped with stop seconds, that beats at 4Hz, has 23 jewels, and a minimum 58-hour power reserve.
Fittingly —for a vintage-inspired re-edition — the matte black dial features Hanhart’s historical logo printed in white at 12, luminous Arabic numerals printed (except at 3 and 9), syringe-shaped luminous hour and minute hands, a white printed outer chapter ring, “SHOCKPROOF” printed in white at 6, and a unique lume filled center chronograph seconds hand.
A domed sapphire protects the dial side and a solid stainless steel screw-in caseback on the opposite side. The caseback is engraved with the numbered limited edition “XXX/150” and an engraving of the historical logo and the “REVOLUTION” logo.
Retail is $1,900 for the watch, $590 for the jacket, or $2,300 for both.
