The Casio WSD-F20 smartwatch is built-on the venerable Pro Trek line which is made for outdoor adventures and includes the prerequisite altimeter, compass, barometer, as well as sunrise/sunset, tide graph, and fishing time – all accessible within the native “Tool App” that utilize sensors like models of the past but displayed on a large full-color touchscreen, driven by hardware and software that is made specifically for a smartwatch. Additionally, there are other common functions such as auto time correction that happens when connected to a smartphone (manual time setting as a backup), and multiple time zones.

One of the coolest features is the GPS functionality that accurately senses natural phenomena (such as weather, fog, and such) and displays the current location on a full-color map. Additionally, there are a plethora of apps built on the Wear OS by Google interface that expand the functionality exponentially. There are apps for biking, golfing, working out, hiking (including the View Ranger app we used during our hike), and many more. View Ranger, which works for Android and iOS, requires the map to be downloaded to your watch, and once that is the done the watch essentially becomes a turn-by-turn GPS navigation device, on your wrist.

Casio’s Pro Trek Smartwatch does require an Android-based smartphone for full functionality, however, it does connect with Apple’s iOS, and the GPS, for instance, can still work, along with the time, even when no phone is connected or nearby. Water-resistance is 50 meters.

Construction-wise the watch is very robust and is in fact currently the only smartwatch that meets the durability requirements of US Military Standard MIL-STD-810G.
