Le Brassus-based watchmaker Audemars Piguet, debuted a new Code 11.59 timepiece today, equipped with a Flying Tourbillon and a Flyback Chronograph.

Presented in the company’s 41 mm circular case, all of the Code 11.59 watches have an octagonal case middle, short hollowed lugs, and an intricate mixture of case finishing techniques — often reserved for the movement — such as the unusual faceted and beveled edges.

Setting this highly complicated Code 11.59 apart from the original Code timepieces is a flying tourbillon that performs a multi-angled, gravity-correcting rotation at 6 o’clock, with the tourbillon cage being supported from only one side (a regular tourbillon is supported by two sides).

Further setting the watch apart is the flyback chronograph function which allows the chronograph to be reset to zero without having to stop the chronograph first.

Lastly, the highly skeletonized movement and dial components mimic the finishes on the case and backside of the caliber. The hand-beveled and polished interior angles are rather difficult to produce — and the 2020 Code 11.59 Flying Tourbillon Chronograph has them everywhere — so ultimately that much more time is required to make it perfect.

The outer chapter is angled slightly down towards the center of the dial and has a blue-lacquered surface with a white 0-60 track, which is used to indicate hours, minutes, and chronograph seconds. The bi-compax subdials are lacquered blue with white graduations, matching the main ring, plus they are surrounded by white gold rings that are individually screwed to the movement bridges. White hands indicate 30-minutes and 12-hours, respectively, in coordination with the long white centrally mounted chronograph seconds baton-shaped hand, which features a distinctive circular open counterweight. Hours and minutes are displayed by blue hands that are made of 18K white gold.
