Today Hodinkee and Swatch debuted their third collaborative timepiece, the Swatch Sistem51 Hodinkee Generation 1986.

The design inspiration came from Swatch’s 1986 Emerald Diver which features an electric green case and fixed bezel, paired with a black dial, a mix of yellow and red markers, shovel hands, and a day-date indicator at three o’clock.

Presented in a modern 42 mm x 13.9 mm black plastic case and caseback, instead of green, along with a black silicone strap, the color will appeal to a wider range of consumers. Additionally, the hands are thinner, in a baton-shape, and the date window has been moved to six o’clock, and the day indicator has been removed altogether. The hands and markers are luminous.

What remained from the original Emerald Diver are the hour markers which are a mix of colors (red and cream) and shapes (triangles, rectangles, circles).

The movement (automatic caliber Sistem51) drives hours, minutes, seconds, date functions, features a Nivachron hairspring, and visible through the clear caseback you can see the black-and-gray “Hodinkee” pattern filled with interlocking “H” characters running across the bridges. The power reserve is 90-hours.
