Pre-Baseworld: Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom

Ahead of Baselworld 2017, which takes place next month in Basel, Switzerland, Harry Winston has previewed a new diamond studded rectangular-shaped ladies’ timepiece called the Avenue Classic Cherry Blossom. Inspired by the architecture Harry Winston’s Fifth Avenue Flagship Salon in New York the case is set with 29 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 2.21 carats). The push-in crown is also set with a diamond. The case measures 21.15 mm x 36.1 mm x 6.68 mm and is water-resistant to 30 meters. The green mother-of-pearl dial features 29 white gold applied brilliant cut pink sapphires (approx. 0.04 carats) and 39 brilliant-cut diamonds (approx. 0.08 carats). The symbolic branches of a cherry blossom tree are crafted in white gold and hand-applied to the to dial. Placed on the dial at 12 o’clock, the letters HW are housed in an octagonal frame, a shape inspired

SIHH 2017: Audemars Piguet Diamond Outrage

As the third and final part of the Audemars Piguet Haute Joaillerie ladies’ cuff timepiece trilogy – which started with the Dimond Punk in 2015, followed by the Dimond Fury in 2016 – the Diamond Outrage debuts today at SIHH in Geneva. The Diamond Outrage is available in two different one-of-kind pieces that are crafted in 18K white gold and include prominent spikes set with either diamonds or blue sapphires. Aptly described by Audemars Piguet, the “Diamond Outrage becomes an explosion of stalactites on the wrist.” The sparkling spikes vary in size from 29.30 mm to 40 mm in length, and are produced using the so-called “snow setting” technique, where the diamonds are set so close together that the jewel’s white gold frame appears almost invisible. The invisible setting, another rare technique, is used for each of the three distinctive

Audemars Piguet has announced a new collection of Frosted Royal Oak timepieces – designed for women – that will be officially launched at the SIHH watch show in January. The line consists of two 37 mm Royal Oaks, in pink or white gold, powered by mechanical movements; and two 33 mm Royal Oaks, in pink or white gold, powered by quartz movements. To achieve the all-new “frosted” look each case and bracelet are hammered by hand. Otherwise, the movements and signature silver “Grande Tapisserie” dials are the same as what is offered on current Royal Oak models. Prices to be announced at SIHH 2017.

Patek Philippe introduces 'Flamme' Diamond Set Calatrava

Jason Pitsch

Introduced this year at Baselworld, the Calatrava Ref. 7200/200R ladies watch features a new gem-setting technique that utilizes staggered rows of diamonds to amplify their sparkle and brilliance. The technique called “Flamme,” has been officially registered as a trademark by Patek Philippe for the horological industry. The unique gem-setting technique is complex and requires the skilled hand of a master jeweler. Furthermore, as with all jewelry pieces, only superb, flawless Top Wessleton brilliant-cut diamonds are used, in accordance with Patek Philippe’s rigorous standards as stipulated by the Patek Philippe Seal. The 18K rose gold Calatrava bezel is set with 142 diamonds, in two staggered rows. Each stone is placed inside a drilled slot. The gem-setter then manually sculpts a small prong for each setting and then bends it over the diamond to secure it on one side from above. Then,

Hands-On with the NOMOS Glashütte Lux Cicada

NOMOS Glashütte is a German watchmaker that has made a big splash on the watch scene in recent years. Whether it is their neutral colored designs or watches like the Lux Cicada – which has a bright lemon-colored dial – everything NOMOS designs is offbeat, original and cool. These are luxury watches, no doubt, but they don’t have the same vibe as what is coming from Switzerland. It’s almost as the designers come from a different planet. Featuring a three-part tonneau shaped case crafted in rose gold that’s been fully polished the Lux Cicada measures 38.5 mm by 34 mm by 9 mm and is marketed as a ladies’ model. The Lux Cicada Lemon comes with a dark brown Horween leather strap, attached to the wired lugs, and it can be easily changed without a tool, thanks to a quick
