Yesterday, Hautlence announced a new watch called the HL Newton (pictured top), featuring a new caliber, with an idiosyncratic reworking of the jumping hour mechanism that introduces a new time display method. The system is based on gravitational force, that indicates the time only when required. The watch enters mechanical standby mode whenever the passing minutes are of no interest. Today, Bremont is hosting a private screening of the comic-based movie Venom, which stars British actor Tom Hardy, in New York City. The Bremont U-2/51-Jet appears in the movie, as a paid product placement. Learn more here.
Tomorrow, the NASA moon landing epic staring Ryan Gosling First Man hits theaters, and no less than three Omega watches will be making it onto the big screen. The Omega Speedmaster ST 105.003 (aka the Ed White which was worn on the first American spacewalk in 1965), the Omega Speedmaster ST 105.012 (worn by astronauts during the first lunar landing in 1969), the Omega CK 2605 (a classic 1954 Omega worn by Armstrong during the time period the movie is set in), and an Omega stopwatch (A 1960s stopwatch used on-screen by the NASA engineers during training).
On Tuesday, Corum announced their intent to leave Baselworld for 2019, with plans to replace that show with smaller local shows (similar to what other companies are doing), and other initiatives better designed to compete in the current sales environment that is more digital-focused.
Monday, Grand Seiko Corporation of America announced a collection of limited edition timepieces made exclusively for the US market. Each watch is assembled at the Shinshu Watch Studio in Japan, driven by a 9R15/65 Spring Drive movement, and presented in a 44GS case which shows off the flat and mirror polished Zaratsu surfaces. Most notably, the dial of the three versions features a Japanese painting technique called “Kira-zuri” which translates to “sparkling painting.” The timepieces will be available in 20 limited edition platinum pieces (pictured), 18K rose gold (50 pieces), and stainless steel (558 pieces).
