After a number of successful campaigns on Kickstarter, Indiegogo, and Campfire, the team of Ukrainian engineers behind Nixoid created another version of their popular Nixie tube wristwatch.

The Nixoid Next is the latest generation of Nixie tube-equipped wristwatches, with a slimmer and lighter case design than past iterations. Featuring an aluminum alloy case measuring 16.9 mm thick and at least 50 mm in diameter, these watches are not small. Of course, the size of the tubes — which are no longer produced anymore — stipulates the size of the watch.

Currently on Kickstarter, with 32 days to go, the campaign has already exceeded $200K, with a goal of just $10K, so there’s definitely a lot of demand for these, and considering past campaigns, you have peace of mind that the company will deliver on their promises.

Each watch is fitted with NOS Nixie VFD lamps — that emit a warm orange glow — that were produced and stowed away 25 years ago. The numbers used to display the time are encased in air-tight glass tubes with a vacuum inside them and have blue lights at the base which create an incredible contrast with the orange hue of the primary tubes. With the Next version, you can press the button on the case flank to light up the current hour (in 12 or 24-hour format), or if the accelerometer is activated (a new feature), tilting your wrist towards you automatically lights up the time (like an Apple watch).

Each tube has a projected lamp life of 20-years, being on-demand only preserves the length of the lamps. With the accelerometer on the battery can last for 10 days, and with the accelerometer off it lasts for up to 30-days. The watch battery can be charged effortlessly with the proprietary magnetic charger.

And despite the rather low price point, the dial is protected by a sapphire crystal.
