This year Omega extended their Constellation line with a new variation of the Globemaster dress watch featuring a diamond-polished black dial.
The 41 mm diameter stainless steel Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar features a fluted bezel made from a scratch-resistant tungsten carbide material, just like the existing Globemaster Annual Calendar, which has blued hands and dial accents, in place of 18K gold, yet costs $150 more.
Omega refers to the faceted glossy jet-black dial as a “pie-pan” style that was first seen on the brand’s original Constellation timepiece in 1952. Each facet of the dial includes a month of the year, indicated by the short, centrally mounted, flat, matte-finished 18K white gold, needle-shaped hand.
As the print on the dial suggests, this is an Annual Calendar wristwatch so if kept fully wound, the date only needs to be adjusted once a year, in February. There’s also a symmetrically positioned date display at 6 o’clock, which has an instantaneous jump feature at midnight. The day of the week is not indicated.
Baton-shaped hour and minute hands are crafted from 18K white gold, as are the applied indices, all of which have luminous paint. The central sweeping seconds hand is in polished 18K gold, with two facets.
On the back is a relief engraved Constellation Observatory medallion in stainless steel and set in the sapphire crystal. The movement is a 4Hz automatic winding Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 8922. There are two power barrels mounted in series that are good for a 55-hour power reserve. A free-sprung balance wheel mounted on a traversing balance bridge with a silicon balance spring ensures good accuracy and easy adjustment. The movement features a rhodium plated finish with Omega’s signature Geneva waves in arabesque, and is accented with blackended screws.
The Constellation Globemaster Annual Calendar (Ref. 130.33.41.22.01.001) is 100 meters water-resistant, comes with a 20 mm glossy black alligator leather strap, and is available beginning August 2019. Retail is $8,450.
