This week, Audemars Piguet revealed for the first time ever, a Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar in full titanium. Although less common, AP has used titanium in Royal Oaks before, such as this platinum and titanium model from two years ago – just never full titanium in a Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar.

Introducing the Royal Oak Perpetual Calendar China Limited Edition, developed in collaboration with Austen Chu (@horoloupe) who contributed towards the aesthetics. The Perpetual Royal Oak has been introduced in numerous other variations recently, including platinum and ceramic.

According to Audemars Piguet, “This limited edition of 88 pieces celebrates the brand’s enduring history with China, which was designed exclusively for the Chinese market.” While AP does not do many limited editions, they previously released the Royal Oak Pride of China in 2008, which was a two-tone, 500 piece limited edition combining steel and pink gold with date and moon indication. The caseback featured a detailed rendering of China’s Great Wall.

The Royal Oak Perpetual LE comes in a 41 mm diameter case and is powered by automatic AP perpetual caliber 5134 which beats at 2.75Hz, has 38 jewels, 374 components, a 40-hour power reserve, and a pink solid gold skeletonized and engraved oscillating weight.

A slate grey dial with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, black counters, white gold applied hour-makers, and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating, black inner bezel displays hours, minutes, and perpetual calendar functions including a week indication, day, date, astronomical moon, month, leap year.

The red centrally mounted week-indication hand — arguably one of the coolest functions of AP’s perpetual — evokes the Chinese traditional symbol of happiness and passion. The watch, which comes on a bracelet also comes with two additional straps: a red rubber strap and a grey hand-stitched alligator strap. (Ref. 26609TI.OO.1220TI.01)
