This week French watchmaker Yema announced a new limited-edition iteration of its Superman dive watch.

The Superman ‘Skin Diver’ Limited Edition is available in stainless steel with the choice of either a 39 mm and 41 mm case diameter. The Superman shape and crown guards are preset as usual and what’s unique to this particular timepiece is the lightweight scales bracelet.

Large printed tipless triangular indices and “Skin Diver” hands — with Arabic numerals on top of the indices at 12, 6, and 9 — distinguish the black dial of this Superman dive watch compared to past editions. The luminous treatments on the hands and indices are generous and have been formulated with a beige hue to add to the timepiece’s vintage aesthetic. A lollipop center seconds hand and a date window at 3 o’clock complete the look.

Despite “FRANCE” being marked on the dial, instead of using one of Yema’s French-made in-house calibers, for this limited edition the company went with an outsourced Swiss-made Sellita SW-200-1 automatic movement.

A sapphire crystal insert is used for the unidirectional dive bezel, which is reminiscent of the original bakelite-equipped Superman watches. The Superman crown screws down to the case, as does the caseback, and the dial is protected by a retro-style domed sapphire crystal. Water-resistant is rated down to 300 meters.

Retail is $1,249.
