Bulgari’s Octo collection has been a hot topic of conversation over the past few years. The design is polarizing and most people I’ve talked to either “love it” or “hate it.”.

The Octo Finissimo Automatic Titanium has a lightweight titanium case, bracelet, and dial, with a sophisticated gray sandblasted matte finish that’s elegant yet sporty. The super thin in-house automatic caliber 138 beats at 3Hz and features a platinum micro-rotor, with a 60-hour power reserve. A clear caseback offers a view of the nicely hand-decorated bridges, which include Genèva stripes, beveled and polished edges, as well as polished screws, and perlage on the mainplate. At 2.23 mm it has the thinnest automatic movement on the market. This watch will stand out and is instantly recognizable if that’s what you’re looking for.

The Octo Finissimo has a suggested retail price of $13,900 watch but based on my research it’s listed by dozens of sellers closer to $10K, with a low in the upper $8K range. The disparity is not that surprising, and most new watches depreciate significantly the second you leave the store, much like with cars, however, in this instance, these are new prices.

The distinctive octagonal-shaped case of the titanium Octo Finissimo Automatic Titanium is more attractive in person than I expected it to be. And at 40 mm by 5.15 mm, it slides nicely under a shirt cuff. The Octo collection has evolved a lot since I first saw it 5 years ago at the Bulgari boutique. The biggest flaw, in my opinion – and the same can be said about many new luxury watches – is that the retail price relative to the market and the subsequent resale values do not match up. I think the Octo Finissimo Titanium is realistically an $8-10K watch, which is well below the manufacturer’s suggested retail of $13,900 (Ref. 102713). That said, any dealer you speak with should be willing to negotiate.
