Urwerk has just announced a special Zirconium Nitride (ZrN) edition of their UR-110 Torpedo. The UR-110 ZrN Torpedo is limited to just 12 pieces available exclusively at Chronopassion, Marcus, The Hour Glass and Westime.

The case is made of Grade 5 titanium with a 316L sandblasted stainless steel bezel treated with Zirconium Nitride (47 mm x 51 mm x 16 mm).”ZrN is for Zirconium Nitride: A champagne-coloured high-performance ceramic machine tool coating which, while only a few microns thick, is very hard (2000 Vickers); provides excellent scratch, wear, and corrosion resistance; and exhibits good lubricity and ductility. The ZrN coating is vapor-deposited over the sandblasted steel bezel to provide the timepiece’s distinctive frosted pale gold effect.”

Powering the new Torpedo is the same UR 9.01 self-wing caliber as used in the original UR-110. The winding system features a unidirectional winding rotor coupled to twin turbines. Single mainspring barrel (39-hour power reserve). 46 jewels, 28,800 vph (4Hz), monometallic balance, flat balance spring. Hand finished with circular graining, diamond polishing, and chamfered and polished screw heads.

Functions include Urwerk’s unique revolving satellite complication with rotating hours and minutes modules mounted on planetary gears. The hours and minutes are coated in bright yellow Superluminova. At the top of the dial is a day/night indication. An oil change indicator is located in the lower left quadrant of the dial (Urwerk’s unique system that alerts you when the watch needs service). The dial also features a small seconds indicator.
