This summer, Victorinox announced their first new wristwatch collection in many years, the FieldForce. Initially offered in a three-hand model, they’ve since added a chronograph to the collection.

Introducing the FieldForce Chrono, available in six variations, and is housed in the same 42 mm diameter stainless steel case as the standard FieldForce watch. You can pick from matte white, black, or blue dials, and either a stainless steel bracelet or leather strap.

For the chronograph, there’s a fixed black bezel with a tachymeter scale, two pushers on the right case flank to start/stop/reset the chronograph, and three subdials, as well as a date at 6 o’clock within the subdial at 6. A red varnished central chronograph seconds hand, along with a 30-minute counter at 9 o’clock and 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock allow you to track elapsed chronograph times.

The dials are matte finished and have stamped luminescent Arabic numerals, except at 12 o’clock which features the Victorinox Swiss Army shield emblem. Large sword-shaped luminescent hour and minute hands coupled with prominent hour markers and a white printed chapter ring make reading the time at a glance very easy. A small seconds counter, with a white hand, at 3 o’clock continuously sweeps, letting you know the watch is running.

A flat, triple-coated anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial. The caseback is solid and screwed-in. The crown, which is protected by crown guards that are built into the steel case, controls the hour and minute hands, as well as the date, and is of the push-in variety.  The water resistance is rated down to 100 meters.

Everything except the watch movement, which is a Ronda 5030.D Swiss-made quartz movement, is made in Victorinox’s Ibach, Switzerland factory.

Verdict

Overall, the watch wears very well at 42 mm in diameter, and it’s relatively thin and light. The case features a mixture of polished and brushed surfaces that give it a premium feel. It’s quartz – so if you’re set on a mechanical you’ll likely have to wait to see if they offer one down the road – which means you will rarely ever have to set it.
