After a long period with no large-scale physical watch shows, Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 is on schedule to take place next year.
The dates are March 30th, 2022 to April 5th, 2022 and as of today there are 38 brands officially scheduled to exhibit. Of course, there will also be brands exhibiting adjacent to the show in nearby hotels, ateliers, bars, and other suitable venues.
The Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022 venue is the Geneva Palexpo center (the same location that SIHH has taken place for years), which is connected to the Geneva airport, and this year, due to the increase in large-scale exhibitors, will require a much larger footprint than the SIHH shows of the past.
Most notably, Rolex and Patek Philippe, who vacated the now-defunct Baselworld show, will be alongside the Richemont and LVMH brands, as well as others. Holistically, the show is more complete than it was in Basel because many of the top brands were in Basel and many were in Geneva, and now they’re all in one place — making this the single most important luxury watch event of the year.
Two big names that are notably absent, are Omega and Breitling, but Breitling will be hosting something big in advance of the show, and we’d wager that Omega may have their own plans as well. All in all, this is likely the beginning of an era (assuming no new lockdowns prevent the show from taking place), where the retailers, collectors, media, only need to travel to Switzerland once a year. This is a good thing, although we cannot ignore the fact that the demise of Baselworld, coupled with the Covid-accelerated digitization of watch launches, has at least somewhat diminished the necessity of one large physical event.
If you are going to Watches and Wonders Geneva 2022, make sure to look into getting your Swiss Covid certificate, as it’s required to go inside bars, restaurants, grocery stores, exhibitions, and almost anywhere open to the public.
