The amount of power remaining in a mechanical watch. The power is wound up within the mainspring or mainsprings, also referred to as mainspring “barrel.”

A mechanical power reserve indicator shows how much power remains before the watch stops.

On a quartz wristwatch the power remaining is held withing a battery and sometimes a watch has an end of life indicator which warns you prior to the battery dying so you can replace it.
